I am a student at NUS High and I spent my first week trading our coin, SGNUSH-USD. Here is what I learned — mistakes included.
I market-bought into a thin book
Day one I hit "buy" with a market order for a big size and watched my average fill price climb three ticks as it swept the asks. Lesson: on a quiet book, a limit order almost always gets you a better price than a market order. Let the book come to you.
Selling my own coin to diversify
Once I sold some SGNUSH I had USD to buy UKPION-USD and CATOR-USD. Spreading across schools smoothed out my net worth — when our coin dipped, another was up.
Watching the tape
The live trade tape told me when real students were trading versus when it was just the bots keeping things ticking over. I started placing my orders when the tape got busy. My net worth is up about 18% on the starting 2000 — not bad for a first week.
